MARILYN HORNE (Master Class Teacher) made her operatic debut at age twenty in Smetana's The Bartered Bride for the LA Guild Opera. Called "probably the greatest singer in the world" (Opera News, 1981), she is, without a doubt, one of the greatest mezzo-sopranos in opera history and is probably the greatest interpreter of Rossini ever. Her international career included appearances on the great stages of Covent Garden, La Scala and the Metropolitan Opera House. Ms. Horne and soprano Dame Joan Sutherland performed together in numerous productions including Don Giovanni and The Merry Widow. She has been singing for over 40 years and her contributions to the opera world live on in her numerous recordings. Today, Marilyn Horne works as the Vocal Program Director at the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, California and has also established The Marilyn Horne Foundation, which helps to support young singers.
